This meeting will be held in Vienna, Austria, 15-20 April 2007. See the official call for paper at http://meetings.copernicus.org/egu2007/. Session SM5 is titled "Seismic Imaging with Coda and Noise". Deadline for support application: 9 Dec. 2005 Deadline for receipt of abstracts: 13 Jan. 2006 Session information: Multiple scattering at small scale heterogeneities in the Earth causes attenuation of seismic waves and generates an incoherent wave field referred to as seismic coda. A related phenomenon is dissipation causing a loss of seismic energy into other forms of energy such as heat. Recent studies have revealed the importance of these effects for high frequency seismic wave propagation in the Earth. This session invites contributions on new developments in the field of multiple scattering and dissipation, such as methods to separate scattering and intrinsic attenuation, simulation of waves through highly heterogeneous media, and wave propagation through random media. We also welcome contributions on new inversion strategies and on laboratory experiments and seismological field data interpretation to measure statistical and dissipative characteristics of the Earth medium."
